Mr. Hudson founded Tiburon Oil and Gas in 2022 and currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer. In this capacity, he leads the strategic evaluation, acquisition, and development of assets within the Appalachian Basin, driving the company’s growth and operational excellence in the region.
Before founding Tiburon Oil and Gas, Mr. Hudson served as Vice President of Drilling and Completions at Callon Petroleum, following the December 2019 acquisition of Carrizo Oil & Gas, Inc. He spent over 15 years at Carrizo, culminating in his role as Vice President of Drilling and Completions from September 2014 onward. For the last year, Mr. Hudson’s role focused on integrating Operation Team personnel and practices to ensure the success of the merger. During his tenure at Carrizo and then Callon, he was deeply involved in analyzing production history, economics, and lease requirements to successfully determine where and how new wells should be drilled. Going beyond the typical duties of his role, he served as a principal participant in the daily production operations, marketing, and land agreements for both new and existing wells.
Over his career, Mr. Hudson has been instrumental in drilling and completing over 1,500 wells, managing up to 11 rigs and five frac crews simultaneously. His leadership ensured adherence to corporate budgets—managing capital expenditures up to $950 million—while consistently meeting production targets. While overseeing the development of Carrizo’s assets, he provided strategic leadership for the Operations team of approximately 80 people. Simultaneously, he was a key player on the business and JV management side in organizing external and internal business growth. Moreover, Mr. Hudson maintains expansive knowledge and deep experience in successively overseeing operations in up to six concurrent basins.
Mr. Hudson began his tenure at Carrizo Oil and Gas, Inc. in July 2005 as an Operations Engineer, where he quickly made a significant impact by enhancing operational efficiencies. His career progression included promotions to Manager of Drilling and Completions for the Barnett Shale and Western US, ultimately becoming General Manager of Drilling and Completions in May 2013 and then Vice President in September 2014. Before joining Carrizo, he worked as a Drilling and Completion Engineer for CDX-Dart Drilling and Technology, a Stimulation Engineer for Halliburton in the Gulf of Mexico, and an Operations Engineer for Continuous Operations, Inc.
Mr. Hudson is a graduate of the General Management Program at Harvard Business School and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech University. He is a Board- Certified Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.
He is actively involved in various industry and civic organizations, having co-chaired the Small Steps Wine Classic in 2020 and 2021. He also continues to serve on the Small Steps Sporting Clays Advisory Board since 2017.
