Vice President of Land
Mr. Friedman assumed the role of Vice President - Land in late 2022, directing Tiburon's day-to-day land operations, including lease acquisition, contracts, joint ventures and unitization. Mr. Friedman has over 40 years of experience as an oil and gas landman. Prior to joining Tiburon, Mr. Friedman most recently served as Director, Land for Callon Petroleum, managing Callon’s land operations in the Delaware, Midland and Eagle Ford basins in Texas with a staff of 20 landmen and land techs. Prior to Callon’s merger with Carrizo Oil & Gas, Inc. in late 2019, Mr. Friedman served as Carrizo’s Delaware Basin Land Manager, which included the acquisition of ExL Petroleum. Prior to that, Mr. Friedman served for over 13 years in a business development role for Carrizo, assembling and directing a team of 3 principals (including an oil and gas attorney) and dozens of field landmen who together were responsible for acquiring over 80,000 net acres of leasehold in the Barnett and Eagle Ford shale plays. During this time, Mr. Friedman was also responsible for managing all land (including joint venture) activities on the leasehold acquired for Carrizo while it was being drilled and produced. Mr. Friedman began his career at Shell Oil Company, where he spent 20 years serving in various land roles of increasing importance while based in Shell’s Houston, Traverse City and Bakersfield offices. Mr. Friedman was responsible for a wide variety of land, contract and joint venture functions in Texas, Michigan, California, Alaska and the Rocky Mountains, including as Team Leader for the multi-disciplined South Texas Wilcox Team. Throughout his career at Shell, Mr. Friedman served as the lead landman on multiple acquisitions, divestitures and trades, spending his last 3 years at Shell as the first landman assigned full time to the Mergers and Acquisitions group after his role in the acquisition of McMurray Energy’s Pinedale Anticline Field. Mr. Friedman received a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Petroleum Land Management from The University of Texas at Austin in 1983.
